Vellarikka Pachadi

Good food is wise medicine.

This is an uncooked vegetarian side dish  eaten with rice, which my family is quite fond of..As it doesn't require cooking and can be made in a few minutes, it is one of the frequently found side dishes at our dining table. I was introduced to this simple  dish by my sister in law and later it became one of my favourites. Try this out and you would be hooked to the distinct flavour of ground mustard and yogurt...

Here is the recipe...

Things you need:

2 cups grated skinned cucumber
1 green chili
1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
1/2 cup fresh grated coconut
1 and 1/2 cups fresh yogurt
Salt to taste
For tempering:
1 tsp coconut oil
1 sprig of curry leaves
2 dry red chillies
1/2 tsp mustard seeds

Preparation:

Grind the coconut with green chili and mustard seeds, to a fine paste. Beat  the yogurt and mix it with the ground coconut mixture. Now add the grated cucumber and adequate salt. Mix well.
For tempering, heat coconut oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds in it.Add curry leaves and remove from heat. Pour it over the prepared pachadi and mix well.
Serve with steamed rice and sambar.
